About the creator
My name is Fiona. I've lived for over 20 years on the edge of an Etruscan village in the Casentino valley, which may explain why I'm drawn to things that have outlasted their original meaning — old stone, old books, old gold.
I'm a writer and artist, and I'm a maximalist by conviction: I believe an object earns its place by lived experience, not how tidy it looks. I spend a disproportionate amount of my life in second-hand shops and antiques markets, not so much hunting for treasures (which is always exciting) but more looking for evidence. You see to my way of thinking, a fragment of verse, a pressed flower or an old key can all be saying the same thing if you know how to read them.
That's really what Wild & Gilded is: an ongoing argument that the small and the vast are made of the same material. The alchemical "As above,so below" if you like. My motto is "You CAN gild the lily," and I look on this as a philosophy, not just a decorating tip.
I share the farmhouse with my husband William, rough collie Louis, Maine Coon Orion, two hens, three alpacas, and two hives of bees. They mostly ignore all this and get on with enjoying life in Tuscany!
