Hi, I’m Lauren. I’m a mom of four, and Letters She’ll Keep really started from something I think a lot of parents experience: There are so many things I want my daughter to know — but sometimes I’m not the person she wants to hear them from. I can tell her a hundred times that she doesn’t have to be everyone’s favorite. That the right friends won’t make her question where she stands. That making a mistake doesn’t mean she failed. That she doesn’t need to make herself smaller so someone else feels comfortable. And sometimes the response is basically, “I know, Mom.” I get it. There were things my own parents told me growing up that I probably didn’t fully understand until years later. But these letters aren’t just a collection of things I’ve wanted to tell my own daughter. They’ve also grown out of so many conversations — with other moms, friends, women looking back on what they wish they had known sooner, and girls navigating these things right now. The details might be different, but the conversations are surprisingly similar. Friendships that suddenly change. Feeling left out. Comparing yourself to everyone around you. Being afraid to get something wrong. Learning when to speak up. Figuring out who you are while you’re still becoming her. And over and over, I kept thinking: Someone should tell our girls this. That’s where Letters She’ll Keep came from. I wanted to take all of those conversations, experiences, reminders, and things we wish we’d known sooner and turn them into something she could actually hold onto. Not a lecture. Not someone telling her what to do. And definitely not because we think something about her needs to be “fixed.” Just a letter showing up in the mail once a month saying: Hey. You might need to hear this. I’m not a parenting expert, and these letters aren’t meant to replace the conversations happening at home. I’m just a mom raising kids too — listening, learning, having a lot of the same conversations, and trying to put some really good words into the hands of our girls. And if one of these letters says something your daughter needs to hear — or reinforces something you’ve already told her a hundred times — then it did exactly what I hoped it would do. And maybe she’ll even keep it. 🤍 — Lauren
