Welcome to this little corner where I combine two passions: words and colors.
Journalism and art shaped my life and helped me view it in two distinctive ways. The first has taught me to search for facts, ask questions and document the world as it is. The latter has allowed me to slow down, reflect on beauty and emotion and express them through colors. Whether I work in watercolor, acrylic, ink, or graphite, I find joy in creating images that tell stories as meaningful as the written ones.
What better way to tell stories than to combine the two?
The Illustrated Press: Headline & Brush does just that. Combines journalism with art. This mail club brings together my love of historical research, storytelling, painting, illustration and local journalism into a single collectible experience.
Each month, I explore an important moment in local newspaper history from across the United States and create an original work of art inspired by that story. My hope is that every package encourages you not only to learn something new, but also to pause, reflect, and connect emotionally with the people and events behind the headlines.
Beyond this monthly club lies a larger mission.
I believe local journalism is one of the greatest public services a community can have. Local newspapers helped preserve our neighborhoods' histories, celebrated everyday people and held institutions accountable.
By uncovering forgotten headlines and stories, I want to bridge the gap between journalists and their craft and readers and their trust in local news.
