Sales tax and VAT

Collect sales tax or VAT at checkout with Stripe Tax, and what remains your responsibility.

MailClubly can add sales tax or VAT to your subscribers' payments automatically, using Stripe Tax. It's off by default.

Do I need it?

It depends on your country, where your subscribers live, and how much you sell. In many places small sellers don't need to collect tax until they pass a threshold. We can't give tax advice, so please check with your local tax authority or an accountant.

How to set it up

  1. Go to Settings → Taxes.
  2. Complete your tax settings (including your head office address).
  3. Add each place where you're registered to collect tax (for example your country, or a US state). You register with the tax authorities yourself. Stripe only collects for places you add.
  4. Choose whether tax is added at checkout or included in your price, and turn tax collection on.

Until your settings are complete, the page shows Not collecting tax yet and no tax is collected.

Good to know

  • Tax collection applies to new subscriptions only. Existing subscribers keep their current billing.
  • Tax is only collected from subscribers in the places where you're registered.
  • On payments where tax is collected, there's an extra 0.5% fee for Stripe's tax calculation. MailClubly's platform fee is never applied to the tax itself.
  • MailClubly calculates and collects tax but doesn't file or pay it for you. Filing returns and paying the tax you collected remains your responsibility.
